Nick Latimer and Warren Cobb represented the North Road at the latest round of the Welwyn Track League. The riders and organisers were all a bit nervous due to the ominous date but the evening was completed with no crashes.
Nick finished 8th in the B Group 10 lap scratch race after getting caught on the inside on the final lap, while Warren dropped off with a couple of laps remaining.
In the odd-number block handicap the B riders were well organised and held off the A group by the length of the straight. Nick picked up his first league points finishing in 3rd in only his second track meet.
Warren had a good ride in the B group Devil, being pulled out with only 8 riders remaining after going on the attack and holding a sizeable league for 2 laps.
In the same race Nick blundered somewhat and found himself at the back early on and was pulled out after about 5 laps in a contentious decision!
The 10 mile race was run off at a very fast pace, with a winning time of 21.00. The B riders were caught by the A group after 10 laps, and Nick stuck with the pace. A group of 5 riders got a slight gap on the bunch with 3 laps remaining and stayed away, with Nick finishing 10th."
