A Peiper's Tale - by Alan Peiper

A Peipers Tale is the autobiography of Alan Peiper the Australian Professional who raced for the Peugeot, Panasonic and Tulip racing teams in the 1980’s and 1990’s.

This book is a great read for anyone who already has knowledge of bike racing but would like a more inside look. Peiper gives a lot of information that hasn’t previously been mentioned in other cycling books – ‘warts & all’. He isn’t afraid to admit he made mistakes in his racing career and gives a different view on the drugs and rider health topics. He also gives very frank details of feuds and inside wheeler dealing that takes place in the peloton.

It was nice to read a book not based solely around the Tour de France as has become the mainstay for cycling literature recently and unlike the Lance Armstrong books he gives away a lot more about himself, which makes you connect and understand the man.

Peiper is a man who raced all season from the Tour of the Med to the Suntour in Australia and he comes across as a thoughtful but ‘hard as nails’ pro. If you are looking for a book that gives a refreshing insight into the Professional cycling world then I strongly recommend this book.
