Neil Lewis the first North Roader to compete at the Lea Valley Velodrome

Ever since the Lea Valley Velodrome aka London Olympic Velodrome opened to the public earlier this year there has been anticipation about a winter track league.

This recently came to fruition as a result of the efforts from Tony Gibb and Full Gas Cycling and racing commenced on 3rd November. As can be imagined there was a lot of interest for the initial registration.

The format is Advanced A/B riders every Monday with a 30 lap scratch, 50 laps points, devil and 40 lap scratch races each week with the last Monday a 'Special' Events night. There is also an Intermediate group which together with the Woman's League runs on alternate Thursdays.

Having the previous experience to race in the Advanced League, Neil Lewis became the first North Roader to compete at the Pringle on Monday 10th November riding in the B league.

Despite it being November the races were hotly contested with all the races run off at a fast pace given the time of year. Neil survived until the final 4 laps in the opening 30 lap scratch but failed to finish in both the points race and concluding 40 lap scratch race. The Devil, however was a different matter, where track craft and tactics play a greater role than brute fitness. Neil skilfully rode to avoid elimination with riders eliminated every other lap from the bunch and made it through to sprint  for the final 3 placings, eventually finishing 3rd.
