Bedford Sprint Triathlon - Sunday 6th May

Report from Nick Latimer

Sunday 6th May saw me line up in Race 1 of the Bedford Sprint Triathlon Series. It was a blustery morning, but the rain that threatened to keep the racers wet even after the swim section of the event fortunately never came. The 250 entrants were set off at 10 second intervals in the pool, swimming 400 metres before setting off on a 24km cycle, taking in some of the country lanes north of Bedford. Then a 5km run around Bedford Park finished the race.

FVS Tri took the first two places, with last year's GB champion Steve Harrison leading the field home in a time of 1.00.50, and Mark Racher - soon to compete in the Lanzarote Ironman - taking second place (1.02.34). After a slowish start in the pool, my bike and run lifted me up to 22nd overall, with a time of 1.11.00. Full results are available here
