& Welwyn Track League Final Standings

Warren Cobb and Ian Coles were the two North Road representatives for the Eastern Regional Track Finals held at WGC Gosling track on the 21st of September. A pleasantly warm and still day greeted the riders as they prepared for the initial event of the afternoon, which was the individual pursuit. Ian went first and posted a time of 3:55:09 to claim 14th position, while Warren came in with 4:25:72 to get 30th position out of 34 riders. The winner was D. Bradshaw in 3:30:31.

The sprint competition came next with Warren being unfortunately knocked out in his heat. Ian came a close 3rd in his heat, this put him through to the repechage, which he won comfortably to get through to the semi final. In the semi final he was up against some tough competition including John McClelland and Ian led out the sprint too early in the race allowing McClelland an easy win and passage through to the final in which he was the eventual victor.

Both riders competed in the 10 mile scratch race which was reeled off at a hot pace. Ian found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time as an attack went just as he was pulling up the banking after his turn on the front of the bunch he found the pace too tough and couldn’t bridge to the leading riders and eventually retired. Warren battled on admirably and finished in the chasing group but over a lap down on the winners.

The event was held on a really pleasant day and made up for the disappointment of the last 2 Welwyn Track League events being cancelled due to rain.

The final North Road standings for the Friday evening track league were:

Ian Coles 21 points

Richard Somerset 7 pts

Nick Latimer 2 pts

Warren Cobb 0 pts

Next year more North Road track riders are needed!!
