Forest Town Track League, Monday 22nd June 2009

After racing at Welwyn the Forest Town track league is not really the same.  The track’s the same length (450m) but is quite bumpy, there are 4 straights and 4 quite sharp corners, and the banking is probably only about 5 degrees.  However, despite all that, it is still possible to give yourself a good thrashing when racing there, which is what it’s all about.

I rode my first Forest Town meeting on the 22nd June, and raced in the 10 lap scratch, the B group mile, the Devil and the ‘Unknown Distance’ race, which ended up being about 12 laps.  After an early attack in the scratch I was caught by the group with half a lap to go, and ended in 9th place, which saw me placed in the B group mile, where I finished 2nd.  Unusually for me I lasted more than 2 laps in the Devil, finishing 7th.

In the ‘Unknown Distance’ event I found myself at the front with what I thought would be about 3 laps remaining, so I sat up and moved out.  No-one wanted to come through though, so I launched a decisive attack and was rewarded by the bell being rung the next time round.  I held the bunch off by half a bike length to take the win.  It’s not Welwyn, but a win’s a win!
