Welwyn Track league - Friday 7th September
There were some strong performances in the final round of the 2007 Welwyn Track League at Gosling Stadium, Welwyn Garden City
Neil Lewis finished 4th in the opening 10 lap scratch event for B group riders.
In the 10 lap handcap for even number A and B riders the B riders were given more than half a lap lead. On the last lap Richard Somerset was in a good positon to fight out the sprint when four of the A group riders caught the bunch. Trevor Burke won the sprint with Richard in sixth.
The next event for B group riders was the devil, two riders out per lap until eight remained. Neil rode well maintaining a postion near the front, Richard rode less well having to ride hard to move up in the bunch each lap to stay in the race. Despite this he managed to survive until the last lap but was too tired to contest the sprint where Neil was forced to lead out but still came second.
The final event was the 10 mile. Richard rode well to stay with the A group all the way to the finish to place twelth whilst Trevor again showed his speed to finish second.
The final league points for the three North Roaders who have contested this year's Track League are
Trevor burke 50 points
Neil Lewis 14 points
Richard Somerset 11 points
North Road numbers were down this year. It would be good if some more members took part next year in this exciting form of bike racing.
