Welwyn Track League - Friday 4th July 2008

Due to a clash with the British Masters at Newport numbers were down at Welwyn track on Friday 4th July, allowing Richard Somerset to take advantage by placing in the top four in all of the three B rider events.

On a warm and windy evening Richard took fourth place in the 10 lap scracth event; Ian Coles and Warren Cobb finished in the bunch.

The next event was the 10 lap block pursuit for odds and evens riders. Richard rode with the evens starting in the home straight, Ian and Warren in the odds in the back straight. Early on in it was evident that the evens were superior to the odds and they were in the same straight at half distance. With one lap to go the evens were down to five riders, two attacked with Richard on their wheel and he came round the last rider to finish second.

The next event was the devil. Ian was eliminated at half distance, Warren with two laps to go. Richard rode intelligently near the front to stay in at the bell and take third place and more points for the track league.

Ian redeemed himself in the 10 mile, winning his petrol money by taking the first two primes. Richard, exhausted, finished just behind the main bunch. The finishing time was 21.52.
