Ian Coles was the sole North Road representative at the special Friday Track League fundraiser at Gosling. A busy and blustery evening saw Ian take part in 5 events including the keirin and a points/devil.
The evening started well with Ian placing 4th in the Hare & Hounds race, being squeezed out of 3rd by millimetres by Brian Evans of Agisco-Viner. In the heats of the Keirin Ian failed to qualify. In the block handicap he attacked in the back straight and held out for 3rd place after a strong late surge by John McClelland. In the interesting Points/Devil race Ian rode aggresively throughout and gained 11 points without being eliminated to gain a tie with Dave Scott from Welwyn Wheelers and was placed in 2nd after a countback.
The 10 mile was decimated by a strong Agisco-Viner team with only a dozen riders actually finishing the event. Ian managed to hold on until 2 laps to go when his legs eventually gave up after a busy but successful evenings racing.
Welwyn Wheelers managed to raise around £600 towards the resurfacing of the Gosling track, which will be matched by Barclays Bank.
