View from the Timekeeper's Chair

After the excitement of Roger Federer at Wimbledon, Jordan Spieth at Royal Birkdale, Adam Peaty in the pool, Sammi Kinghorn at the world para games and Chris Froome in the Tour de France it is back to grass roots sport at the NR evening '10s'!

26 hopefuls lined up for some minutes of exercise and competition mixed with much friendliness and some light hearted banter. There were those who had been round the course many times with varying degrees of satisfaction and disappointment - one cannot always do better on reflection after the event - and one who was trying it for the first time.

Ian clay was busy with the signs and sending riders on their way, Gwyn Watkins taking numbers at the finish, Dagmar Pfeifer providing cakes, Jobe Usher event secretary and treasurer, and Jeff Tipper advising the riders to be good representatives for the Club and cycle sport on the road when coming across other road users. Hopefully all NRers and their guests would wish to be treated as they should treat others on the open road.

Thoughts from Graham Thompson, some time cyclist and NR member.
