Scene from the Grass Verge

Life is not a bowl of strawberries but at this time of year it can be if you are in the right place at the right time. Thus I was in my garden at my strawberry bed in the drizzle in the afternoon busy harvesting, but not looking forward to the journey to the Evening '10'. However it was dry at Brickendon and an unpromising evening produced some good times. Nick Candy, fresh from his 49.56 in a 25 at the weekend, held off the challenge from Andy Hastings making a return to the evening events. NR honour was upheld. Joe Kiely showed how a lightweight junior can go round making easy work of the hills, and Peter Nunn and Ian Turner both recorded better times than previous evenings. Dale Sellers attended to the catering, helped at the signing on table, rode the event and did the washing up with Ivana's help whilst Ian Clay put out the signs and Gwyn Watkins assisted the timekeeper. Chris Glithero may have struggled but he is still getting the pedals round to keep fit! The evening was an exemplar of club life at its best so many thanks to the officials, helpers, riders and others watching. An enjoyable few hours for me at least
