Run in conjunction with the Welwyn Wheelers
North Road cyclists took advantage of the first Club 25 in Guilden Morden to score double Ken Davis points. Nine members took up the offer and Gavin Lewis took full advantage in the absence of the Salver leader Tim Brown with a time of 59:01 to finish third overall.
Ian Turner was the second North Roader home with a time of 1:02:07, coming in 13th,followed by Adam Spector (1:06:24, 17th), with Nick Ison (1:09:08), Matthew Crees (1:09: 09), Chris Glithero (1:12:26) 20th, 21st and 22nd respectively, Jim Ewers (1:14:19) was 25th with Jennifer Hill (1:15:56) winning the handicap and Paul Groves (1:19:52) second.
32 riders competed in this club event with 9 North Roaders, 18 from the Welwyn Wheelers and 5 riders from other clubs, some of whom are regular riders in the Tuesday Evening 10 Series. Andy Hastings was the fastest overall with a ride very near course record. Gavin Lewis kept the North Road among the leaders with a fine ride of 59.01 but after that the Welwyn Wheelers dominated the event. They provided the fastest lady riders and juniors – see the full result for all the riders' times.
The two circuits of Wrestlingworth crossroads, Guilden Morden, Wendy, Wimpole Lodge and Tadlow rarely give an easy ride so any one getting under the hour has done a very good time. The weather does not usually help. A brisk westerly wind and bright sunshine did not make for ideal conditions but the marshals, timekeepers and helpers enjoyed the afternoon. Reports from the Welwyn Wheelers on the afternoon were positive so the event on 10th September may be run on the same lines.
