Bishops Stortford Hilly - Great Hormead, 28 miles - Monday 9th April

There was a healthy contingent of North Roaders on the start sheet of the  Bishops Stortford Hilly time trial on Easter Monday. The weather for this event is often cold, wet and windy but the day was sunny and warm with a light westerly breeze so good times were expected.

The tough hilly course started in Great Hormead, through Brent Pelham, on to Clavering, Arkesden, Great Chishell, Barley, sharp left to Nuthampstead, Langley Lower  Green, Brent Pelham and back to Great Hormead. Total distance 28.5 miles, all on B roads and country lanes.
The North Road was led home by Dave Candy with a good time of 1:20:16 for 23rd place. Bruce Metheringham was the next fastest and the only other club rider to finish in the top half of the field. Recently joined members Tony May and Nicholas Latimer posted good times beating ‘old hands’ Richard Somerset, John McDowall, Chris Symonds and Ashley Glass. Another new member Russell Long finished in 54th place.
The event was won by WCPP rider Alex Dowsett with an amazing course record time of 1:06:29.
