The North Road Cycling Club is located in the Hertford area of Hertfordshire; many of our members live in Hertford, Ware, Welwyn and a sizeable few in North London.
We are mainly a road based club although some members are involved in track cycling, cyclo-cross and off-road. The mainstay for the racing members is the Saturday morning training rides that meet near Hertford. These rides are usually three to four hours long, dependent on the time of year and make up of the group. The pace is dependent on who turns up but can vary from 15 to 18 mph average; often two or more groups will form to ride at different speeds. See training and clubruns page for more details.
There is also a clubrun on Sunday morning starting in Hertford and taking in the quiet country lanes of Hertfordshire; for more details see clubruns page.
We run a time trial league around a hilly circuit based on Brickendon. We regularly attract 25 to 30 riders including non members. The HQ is Brickendon village hall where tea and biscuits are available after the race. This event is a good opportunity for prospective recruits to try out time trialling and to meet existing North Road members.
We are active in Road Racing both British Cycling and LVRC and compete most Thursday and at the weekend.
A number of North Roaders race at Welwyn track league, Gosling Stadium on Friday evenings.
In addition to the time trial league we run two club 25's and a number of one-off events that take place in the summer months, and several of our members participate in open time trials.
We promote a road race in July; an open 25 time trial in May, and the North Road Hardriders in February
In the off season we run an excellent circuit training session in Hertford where members can attempt to keep fit. See events.
Every year we organise at least one continental trip. Recent trips have seen us go to the Tour of Flanders, Liege-Bastogne -Liege and a ride near Reims.
Perhaps most importantly we are a social club always ready to accept new members of whatever ability.
