OPEN EVENTS
HARDRIDERS 25 – FEBRUARY 26, 2023
In 2022 The Hardriders was shortened due to roadworks that overrun, this year there were two sets roadworks on the course that did not finish until 13:00 the day before the Time trial which meant we were able to use the whole course. The winner was Josh Crow-Stewart (Arctic AirconRT) with a time of 1:02:09 he was followed by Alexander Speirs Harworth and District CC and 3rd Freddie Checketts LFGSS CC. Fastest woman was Karine Jones (Verulum Really Moving) 1:13:37with 2nd Elspeth Grace Cambridge CC and 3rd Alice Elwood Islington CC. Six club members entered; Five started with Jamie Anderson the fastest in 01:11:58 for 16th place in a small field of 52 riders, which means he keep the title of the fastest North Roader for another year .
MEMORIAL TROPHY 25 – MAY 13 ,2023
Fourteen North Road CC entrants, fast times and intense competition on a day of a cold wind and clouds Last year’s winners did it again: Rob Walker (WardPewrformance UK) smashed his own course record and Lauren Creamer came in only just outside the hour to take the Ladies prize. Bryan Holland, on a road bike , was the fastest North Roader in 1:05:03 with John Saysell, John McDowell and Brian Evans all close behind, while hotly tipped Chris Symonds suffered a puncture after one lap.
CLUB EVENTS
KEN DAVIS SALVER AND PEGGY AND GEOFF BRUTON TROPHY
The evening 10 series continued to be the focus of the club’s time trialling programme. Twenty-six club members completed at least one event an improvement on last year. Chris Wedge won with 210 points followed by equal second place on 184 pts John Saysell and Chris Symonds. The only lady to take part this year was Ivana Prokopova scoring who score 135 pts Both Ivana Prokopova and Chris Wedge retained their trophy for another year
OTHER CLUB EVENTS
TWO-UP 10 – APRIL16 2023
Three teams of North Roaders faced timekeeper Graham Potter. Brian Evans and John Saysell (Vet Track Stars) were last off and won with 24:29, second were Hugo Evans and Archie Southwell in 24:36 and 3rd were Ashley Glass and Ivana Prokopova 29:35. With the weather not being so cold, these times were about one minute faster than last year. John Saysell and Brian Evans have retained their title again, for another year. A large number of club members who were not riding the 10 joined us at the village hall for refreshments. Everyone then dispersed their own way, either to The Farmers Boy, others to watch the Amstel Gold Race.
CLUB HARDRIDERS – SEPTEMBER 24,2023
We had five North Road Cycling Club members face the timekeeper for two laps of the Brickendon 10 circuit. Chris Wedge riding his Boardman Road bike was the first rider to start, and first to finish, being the fastest on both laps to finish with a time of 0:47:10 and win a NRCC Bronze Medal for his effort
On the road, Ivana Prokopova was only seven second behind Ashley Glass on lap one, and six seconds behind Ashley at the finish. Along with Bruce the Three Amigos (Friends) rode to café Amigo and a pub on Saturday clocking a 111.1 kms ride on Strava.
Just after 12 o’clock, riders, supporters and helpers headed to The Farmer’s Boy for drinks and Sunday meal
HILL CLIMB – OCTOBER 8 2023
The cup engraver will have a new name to add to the W A Palmer Hill Climb Cup this year as Archie Southwell beat Chris Wedge by 6 second to win the Hill climb in 2 minutes 54 second. Tony Bradford showed his versatilely to come 3rd. 8 riders rode with Ivana Prokopova beating Nicky Chandler the only two women to complete
CHRISTMAS 10, DECEMBER 10 2023
In the Club Christmas fancy dress 10 Father Christmas could only manage 4th this year and one of his Elves came 7th with a silver Christmas tree bauble being the fastest of day. Eight riders started on cold day with rain holding off to near the end, compared to last year, when it cancelled due bad weather conditions
New for 2023 we had Christmas party games of musical chairs, pass the parcel, guess the rider with seasonal refreshments held in the village hall after the 10, then further refreshments in the Farmers Boys.
We will go ahead next year with the same format, so I will have time to think of unusual riders’ names for guess the rider
RECORDS AND OTHER NOTABLE RIDES
Paul Willcox returned to the United Kingdom and set two Club records at 10 and 25 miles and recorded three sub 20 minutes rides for 10 miles in 9 Days and represented the Club in the National 50 held on the E9 /50 in July.
Chris Symonds, number 73, riding on his Time Trial bike for Ghana rode against some the who’s who in the cycling world with a following car and a TV moto camera behind, and TV coverage, it’s what dreams are made of.
The route was virtually pan flat, save for the sting in the tail a 700m rise, 7% gradient, at the finish in Stirling (Just like the Brickendon 10).
The winner was “Rainbow” Remo Evenpoel of Belgium, with second place going to the world hour record holder Filippo Ganna and Joshua Tarling 3rd.
With Tour de France, Tour of Spain, Tour of Luxembourg winners and World Champion across different cycling disciplines, we are only jealous of you Chris. Chapeau and round of applauds to you

THANKS
On behalf of the North Road Cycling Club, I would like to thank here anyone who helped in any way from marshalling on a roadside corner to baking cakes and making tea and coffee. If you rode a time trial, either a club event or an open event, it is the grassroots of club cycling whether you recorded a personal, event or course best time or your years fastest. Well done everyone that took part!
