Club Hillclimb - Sunday 26th October 2008

The last event of the North Road Cycling Club calendar took place with 13 members competing for the W. A. Palmer Hillclimb Cup at New Road, Digswell – a popular hill for local cycling clubs.
There was a good turnout for the event despite the heavy rain and lots of leaves on the wet road.
With the defending champion Nick Latimer away on holiday, last year’s runner-up Ian Coles took full advantage to lift the cup after crosssing the finish line in two minutes and 47 seconds. Ian took five seconds out of joint second place Rod Kelson and Simon Best. In fourth place was Steve Watts, riding his first hill climb for the club, he finished with a time of 2:56. Also riding his first hillclimb, new member Ron Osbourne, he reached the summit in 3:22 coming in eighth place. Steve James did not finish he punctured.

A big thank you must go to Graham Thompson and Peter Little for time-keeping, Nick Harris for pushing off, Rachael Coles and Dave Kiely for the photographs.
