Ian Turner on a roll with beating his 10m PB

The biggest challenge in riding this event was breaking the news to Kim that I would be racing on our Wedding Anniversary – a situation that I’m hoping was partly resolved by taking the family out for a slap up meal the evening before.

Conditions for the event were good, warm and sunny with a 10mph breeze from the South. I’ve not ridden the F11 course before and was concerned about the fast descent mid-race and cross-wind effect on a deep section front wheel. I opted to go with the 808 and pleased to report that the course seemed sheltered from the southerly winds and no dramas ensued.

I was delighted to cross the line and shave 10 seconds from my previous 10m PB, with a time of 20:40

The event was won by Pete Lawrence (Team Swift) in a time of 19:32. I think I read somewhere that he did this on a fixed gear bike.
