En route to the start I encountered some heavy rain so a wet event was in the offing but the clouds rolled back and all was well for the 7 pm start. There may have been fewer riders possibly as members had been busy racing at the weekend and absent on family duties at the half term break, but there was a surfeit of helpers. Nuala dealing with matters at the signing in the hall, Nikki with the refreshments, Gywn and Roger Fogg at the start and finish plus Ian Clay rumoured to have been seen putting out the signs around the course. There were numerous members spectating and cheering the riders over the finish line. Conversation turned to hill walking with Roger, and this may have been a small cycling event but there were three members at the start line who had climbed The Inaccessible Pinnacle, the only hill in Scotland in the list of Munros which entails some climbing ability. Roger Fogg, Ian Turner and Graham Thompson swapped tales about the experience. The timekeeper was so busy chatting he gave two riders the incorrect time but all was happily resolved in the HQ.

Timekeepers should not be allow themselves to be sidetracked - please concentrate!

He will have to do better next time.
