Mount Bures CX 11/10/26

Two long hard bumpy climbs connected by some 'wheeeeeeeeh' swoopy downhills with a token bit of tight single track in some woods. If a word cloud was put up to describe the course it would be various iterations of 'brutal' Bryan Holland in the Vets 50-59 race was called up 8th sneaking onto the front row and held that placing until into the second lap before a hard slide out meant a bike change and valuable time lost. After that a lot of effort had to be expended to eventually finish in 18th and left mulling what might have been. John McDowall and David Kiely off in the Vets 60 race that sets off after the Vets 50-59. No sort of race for John who had problems with a tubeless back tyre issue and his spine not agreeing with his decision to 'do some cross' so a DNF. Dave however battled on before a final win nipping in front of a competitor he'd been battling with on the line after he'd worked out it was the final lap. I'm fairly certain that a disappointed rival got a wink and a 'that's racing' from Dave as some sort of consolation. 17th place for Dave and probably his best CX ride in a while.
