LVRC Dunton - Sunday 27th July 2008

Mon 28 Jul 2008

A record eight North Roaders competed in the LVRC event at Dunton on Sunday, promoted by Ciclos Uno: Richard Somerset, Glyn Teare, Ashley Glass, Derek Evans, Nick Harris, Simon Best, Steve James and Geoff Oliver.

It was a hot day but unusually there was little wind to influence the race. It was hard from the start as rider after rider attacked to establish a break, Richard, Simon and Nick being the most prominent from the club in the first half of the race. But with no big hitters to power the breaks they were inevitably brought back within a lap.

Steve attacked at half way but was quickly caught which resulted in him swallowing his lungs such that he was forced to take a lap out. Glyn was forced onto the grass at the same time and also took a lap out. They both rejoined but were disallowed to influence the race.

Geoff started in the separate race for riders 60 and over but this group was quickly caught by the younger riders and Geoff hung on. Unbeknown to him this was not permitted and he was disqualified at the end.

As the bunch sprint approached Richard was in a good position near the front and with 500 metres to go Ashley shot to the front as Richard’s lead out man. Unfortunately Richard missed the move allowing another rider to take his position. In the sprint Richard was just pipped for fourth place. Derek achieved his best ever result at Dunton just behind Richard in sixth. Nick, Simon, Ashley, Steve, Glyn and Geoff finished in the bunch.

So a pretty good result for the North Road. Maybe next time we will hone our tactics better and go for the win.
