LVRC Hog Hill Summer Series 2 - Thurs 3rd of June 10

Thu 03 Jun 2010

A hot and sunny day, and a race in complete contrast to the previous mid-week effort.  No easy start this week, with the C/D group riders given a half lap start some of the big gun riders were out the traps like Pedigree Chum starved greyhounds.  This clearly was ‘the break’, and many of the North Road contingent where caught napping with Dave Kiely off the pace early.

Ian Turner attempted to bridge the quickly developing gap, but had to ease back as John McDowall, Tim Brown, Hugh Vivian (Finsbury Park CC) and a Glade CC rider went through many multiple laps of burning hell as they chased the leading A/B riders that were forming a fast moving group with the best of the C/D riders.  After a huge effort by all four chasing riders contact was eventually made with the large leading group.

With the pace high John did his best to recover from his exertions and was happy to sit in, although Tim showed great strength of recovery to move quickly up to the front of the group.  Sadly he punctured a little later and played no further part in the action. Chris Glithero, continuing his good form of late, had initially been distanced a little but fought back to rejoin the main bunch.

With a lap and a half to go, and with two riders clear, a mini break developed that John  jumped onto, and then kicked away from to open half a lap on the field that he just managed to keep away from on the final scramble on the main climb to claim third place. Chris finished in the main bunch whilst Ian was in the second group on the road.
