A cold, wet and windy start to the season and my first circuit race for 20+ years.

Rode hard up the hill on the 3rd lap and created a lead group of 6/7 riders. This was whittled down to 4 riders with approx 5 laps to go but we had a healthy 30-40 second lead over the remnants of the bunch.

Attacked up the hill on the last lap and opened up a fairly good gap coming round the long uphill right-hander and into the short finishing straight.

Died a thousand deaths as I approached the line with hands aloft in celebration of a maiden victory – only to be pipped on the line by a lunging San Fairy Ann rider.

Lesson learned (but it still felt good!!).
