Amis Velo Hillyfields Cross; Eastern Cyclo Cross League Round 5, Colchester - Saturday 17th October 2009

A slow start from the back of the grid meant that I spent most of the first lap sitting up as the race filed one by one through the wooded section at the start. Lap two opened it all up a bit and this gave me the chance to start picking up some positions. Most of the ground I managed to make up was on the uphill sections and the steep bank at the back of the course which I found was best (quickest) negotiated on foot although some riders stayed in the saddle . No mechanicals this week (apart from an unshipped chain on the penultimate lap that was quickly rectified) meant a finish of 24 out of 46 finishers.  Much better than the Welwyn Race disaster.
