Eastern Cross League – Norwich, Sunday 30th Nov 2014

Dave Kiely and Bryan Holland made the long journey to Fritton Lake, Norfolk for round 14 of the Eastern League.  A new venue proved to provide a very good course.  While mostly flat the course made good use of limited resources in terms of slope with plenty of technical off camber turns, a good fast single track and a number of long grassy straights to take the speed from riders legs.  Bryan lined up in the second row with Dave a couple of rows behind.   A good start from Bryan saw him come through the initial pinch point of the second corner in 5th place. The top four quickly broke away and leaving him battling with 2 others for 5th. Over the first 4 of 7 laps the 3 swapped the lead in their group and kept in close quarters, but with no let up in the pace Bryan eventually started to drop off the back and had to refocus on consolidating his position.  Dave meanwhile was showing signs of improvement after his injury enforced layoff moving up the field from last week. His last lap proved the most challenging with him pushing to catch some riders ahead and sliding off on an downhill off camber turn, before remounting and catching them.

Shaun Aldous (Iceni Velo) won the race ahead of the 57 entrants. Bryan achieved his best result so far, coming 7th 3:18 behind, and Dave 41st, 1 lap 3:18 down.

Joe Kiely racing in the under 12s for Welwyn, and secured his 10th victory in 11 appearances in the Eastern League to secure top spot in the league.
