Eastern Cross League – Redgrave, Saturday 22nd Nov, 2014

Round 12 of the Eastern Cross travelled to distant Redgrave, Suffolk, just inside the border with Norfolk.  A wet drizzle welcomed a reduced contingent of North Road Vets on arrival and this had clearly impacted the course, which was becoming muddier each race.  Bryan Holland and David Kiely had made the journey and lined up in the Vets 40-50 race with 50 other hardy souls.  The race start seemed a little sedater than normal which surprised Bryan who found himself in third place after the first bend. With the mud clinging to tyres and bikes from the off, the race soon spread out and entering into the road section Bryan was a little further back in 7th.  For the next few laps Bryan held position about 20 seconds each side between a lone rider ahead and 2 riders behind. The course was tough but manageable and things seemed to be going well… Unfortunately a puncture coming in to the penultimate lap left him scrambling in the pits for his spare rear wheel, and delayed he returned to the field about 10 places down.  Despite working hard in the remaining race to catch up slower riders time was against him and he came in just behind a group of 4 for a frustrated 15th place. Dave reported an uneventful race as he continues his return to cross racing after injury layoff.   Bryan finished 15th, 4:20 down on the leader with Dave 43rd  one lap down.

Joe Kiely racing in the under 12s for Welwyn, and clocked up his 9th victory in 10 appearances in the Eastern League this season.  This time a closer affair with a CC Ashwell rider 20 seconds behind him.
