Eastern CX League 10 - Gratham Water

Sun 30 Oct 2016

A perennial favourite course for the North Road CX’ers.  Less forested single track than in previous years but much more action along the lake fore shore requiring the dusting off of  racers sand riding abilities.  The continual dry weather meant a course that was rock hard and with a bumpy lushly grassed surface it was a bone shuddering ride even with the fat volume lower pressured CX tubs.

With Dave Kiely still out of action due to injury it was left to John McDowall and Steve James to represent the North Road in the Vets +50 race.
John came home in 16th with Steve a DNF.  Jimmy Piper of MS Society won the event by completing five laps in 36.08 (72 starters with three DNFs)

Bryan Holland in the Vets 40-49 made steady progress during his race after a solid start.  An entanglement with course tape slowed progress a little although he was in his usual battle with the same group of other strong riders that have been regular foes through this season.
Bryan also came home in 16th at 4.28 down on the winner, Mike Mooney of Hub Velo, who managed six laps in 40.35 (74 starters with five DNFs)
