North Roaders battle fatigue
A return to Springfield for a race ran the ‘other way’ than on the last visit a few weeks ago. The second part of a double header of cross action awaited our CX gang after the physical and mental battering received on the previous day at Hadleigh Park.
Three North Roaders on the starting grid for the Vets plus 50 race - John McDowall, Tim Brown and Dave Kiely.
John came home in 16th, Tim a battling 18th at +4.31 and +4.42 respectively down on the winner, Jimmy Piper of Iceni Velo, who completed five laps in 36.50. Dave was a DNF, one of three of the 78 riders who started.
Bryan Holland was our sole representative in the Vets 40-49 event. Having laid a lot on the line in Saturday’s race a slightly weary looking Bryan battled round after a poor start. Still a very respectable result in what looked like a high quality field of racers.
Bryan finished in 24th at 4.13 down on the winner, Robert Purcell of Neon-Velo Cycling Team, who did six laps in 44.05. Sixty riders started of which one was a DNF.
