CC Ashwell Primavera Road Race 18th May 2008

Mon 19 May 2008

I was the lone North Road member in the field of 50 4th Cat’ riders to start the CC Ashwell Primavera Road Race.  In slightly differing weather conditions to that of a week earlier, I found myself having to substitute the sun block for arm and knee warmers.  After the 2 mile neutralised section the race got under way and a break developed quite early on the first lap of 3. Hesitant to react so early on, I tended to think (hope) it perhaps wouldn’t be successful. On lap 2 the second lead vehicle dropped back to the bunch, indicating a gap of 30 seconds; lacking the confidence to go alone, I attempted to organise a chase group but without success. The break numbered 7 and the remaining bunch were left to fight for 8th.

I eventually finished 21st having spent most of the race subsequent to the break, in the leading 10 of the bunch, the uphill sprint to the finish proved just a little to much!
