Lea Valley CC ERRL Road Race, Sunday 1st July 2018

Dave Perry, Andy Harbourne, Hugo Evans and Nick Candy were our four NRCC riders on the start line for this latest ERRL event based on the 15 mile circuit in the far north east of Essex.

With the hot but breezy conditions prevailing on the more open sections of the course Dave Perry found himself towards the back of a strung out bunch which duly splintered unfortunately leaving Dave off the back and unable to regain contact. Meanwhile Hugo and Nick were causing concern for the rest as the duo had broke away gaining twenty or so seconds on the bunch, their escape had not gone unnoticed as the other riders organised themselves to bring our two young riders back to the fold.

Andy Harbourne realising our duo were on a good day acted as domestique for the pair until he went deep into the red keeping them near the front, his work done he slipped out the back, tank emptied. On the last lap the race approached the drag out of Ashdon up to the finish line, at the last turn Nick attacked off the front only to blow, the previous day's race having taken it's toll.

With a lone rider up the road with the race won it became a hard long sprint up the hill in which Hugo continued his consistent form to finish in Sixth place.
