With the LVRC National Crit Championships due at Hog Hill on Sunday 31st May, a strong field assembled at the start line for an event run over the full course. The race itself was even more pacey and commited than previous weeks and all the North Road rider's involved (Steve Taylor, Steve Blackwell, Dave Kieley and John McDowall), had to dig deep to remain any part of the action. The fast pace combined with the Hoggenberg soon thinned the bunch down, until the leading bunch of five or six riders broke cleanly away and gained a healthy advantage. All the North Roaders found the pace difficult to handle, and where not part of the final rites of a decidedly punishing event.
