Easterley Road Race (ERRL), Ugley, 50 miles, 3/4 cat - Sunday 7th September 2008
On a wet but fairly mild morning Jonathan Appleby and Richard Somerset took to the start of the Easterley Road Race for six laps of the Littlebury/Wendons Ambo circuit.
A break of four riders formed at half distance and unusually for a third cat race the riders quickly opened a decent gap, perhaps helped by the lack of enthusiasm on the part of the bunch, as just at the rain stopped and the road dried another downpour came along. This did not stop Jonathan repeatedly surging off the front in an attempt to form a second break but to no avail.
With one lap to got the break had 90 seconds so a bunch sprint was almost inevitable. Jonathan was near the front on the finish hill but faded to finish 16th whilst Richard took second for sixth overall.
There were 33 finishers from 50 starters.
