Ciclos Uno Road Race, Matching Tye, Essex - Sunday 29th March 2009

Having spent much of the last month off the bike with work and illness Jonathan decided to adopt a very defensive strategy for the 50mile Cyclos Uno Road Race.  With 65 riders in the event, which was held predominantly on narrow lanes, there were few opportunities to move up through the field.   After spending 2 laps at the back of the group Jon used one the prime marks to move toward the front.  With a quick average pace of over 24mph nobody was able to go clear so the group was all together for the final section, a gradual 2km drag uphill to the finish.  With relatively fresh legs Jonathan went for a surprise attack and at first went well clear of the field. Unfortunately however, he was unable to hold the gap as 4 sprinters passed him in the final twenty meters.

The race was very well organised.  Two motor bikes kept ahead of the group with whistles to warn riders of oncoming vehicles.  The riders were also generally very responsible, sounding out warnings and riding sensibly.
