LVRC Hog Hill 7 - Thurs 11th Aug 2011

Three NRCC riders turned out for the last of the summer series of LVRC races around Hog Hill: Tim Brown, Dave Kiely and myself. Weather was warm and windy.

The usual sandbagging started concerning how tired we all were and not feeling that good, blah, blah. It appears the only telling the truth was myself ! (more later).

A strong field assembled and Tim was alert enough to join an early four man break that established a big gap on the field. I decided the only way I could support Tim would be shouting encouragement from the touchline and duly dropped out. (LOL)

Meanwhile Dave stayed at the front of the bunch doing his bit to hold up the pack for Tim. When he realised Tim would not be caught by the main bunch, after 55 minutes Dave decided to add vocal support from the sidelines as well.

After 40 minutes Tim dropped off the break and was pursued by another break of three. Tim made sure they had to work hard for a few laps to catch him. Tim then stayed with this group who were now challenging for fourth place on the night. At one point with a few laps to go two of the group got away but Tim dug deep to pull them back. The marshals were so encouraged by the fight for fourth place they let them complete an extra lap over the bunch to fight it out.

On a classic uphill sprint Tim dug deeper still to pip his arch rival on the line for overall series second place. Great effort and well deserved.
