LVRC Mstina Series, Festival Finale RR – Sun 18th October 2009

Perfect autumn conditions; Blue sky, no wind and a touch of ground frost greeted LVRC Vets to the Walliswood (Surrey) circuit for the final round of the Mstina Championship series.
The A/B race started first at 10am. Lap one was very steady, leading to the inevitable break of two riders. No single lap proved to be particularly fast but the race seemed to consist of non-stop surges which I found very hard at times, nearly getting dropped on the 5th lap. The penultimate lap six saw the bunch catching the break, followed pretty much immediately by a second decisive break by Guy Pearson and another, who went on to take first and second place.
The final lap seven was brisk and I tucked in starting to plan my tactics for the finishing gallop. With 1km to go I naively ended up at the front (so much for tactics!) but held on for an 8th place finish.
