North Road 2nd and 3rd at Hog Hill

Hog Hill Winter Series No.8 - Saturday 31st January 2009 

Two North Road riders, Jon Appleby and Jamie Anderson, contested the 3/4 Cat race on a bright but blustery day. The full course was opened up with the ‘Alpine’ twist an addition (not entirely welcomed by all) to the top part of the circuit. Jon started very strongly and launched the only significant break of the race early on, but with the wind and a large chasing field it was always going to be tricky to stay away on his own.
Once reeled in it was Jamie’s turn at – or rather near – the front. The wind and rhythm-breaking top section kept the large group close together, making for some very tight racing. The final laps saw Jon surge to the front and Jamie disappear in an equal and opposite direction. A late charge moved Jamie through the field and into a position where he could attack on the hill where Jon and another rider had already broken clear of the group. Unable to catch the eventual winner,  Jamie finished 2nd and Jon a very close 3rd.
