Whitewebbs LVRC crits - Sat 4th April 2009

The Whitewebbs CC event held at Hog hill, attracted entries from three North Roaders in the LVRC event.  With the full circuit in use the ‘gentlemen of a certain age’ faced the full horror of the dreaded Hoggenberg climb in the traditional hour plus three lap event.  Both Chris Glithero and Del Evans found the combination of the early pace, and the steep climb, too challenging in this early season outing and where dropped early in the race.  A break of about twenty riders developed fairly quickly, which John McDowall managed to hang on to tenaciously, although he was unable to actually contribute anything to the flow of the race.  With small groups of riders scattered round the circuit it was difficult to work out what happened, but it seemed that with three laps to go two small groups riders smuggled away from the main bunch to stay away to claim the first five places.  John then joined the final ‘sprint’ up the climb to come in about tenth overall, and third in his age group.
