Eastern CX League Round 7 - Preston

Sat 17 Oct 2015

A real potpourri of a course that combined various combination of conditions, terrain and some cheeky off camber work.

A double race weekend for the North Road crossers with both held at new venues.  The first CX ‘cab off the rank’ was held at Princess Helena College in Preston.  A familiar location at the top of the nasty climb at the end of the infamous ‘winer circuit’ club ride.
Dave Kiely was our sole rider in the Vets +50 race and came home in 39th having enjoyed some of the more technical aspects of the intriguing course layout.
John McDowall and Bryan Holland lined up with 63 other Vets +40 for their forty minute race.  Both put in very respectable rides in what is a very competitive age format this year.
Bryan came home in 17th and John in 23rd at 4.41 and 6.08 minutes respectively down on the winner.
Another good turn out in the hour long seniors race.  Sadly, ever present Matt Crees had a mechanical just before the start which meant he couldn’t race.  Colin Bailey and Michael Atkinson where left to take the start line.  Colin enjoyed the race again, although a couple of ‘course inspections’, and not particularly enjoying a running section hampered him somewhat.  Michael started out hard from off the grid in an attempt to catch Colin and suffered early for the effort.  Once in the flow though his lap time increased markedly - 24th and 28th for Colin and Michael
