Eastern CX League Round 8 - Northlands

Sun 18 Oct 2015

Another day, another CX race in a hectic and packed schedule of winter racing.

Another debut race taking the place of an old favourite that had been held at Davy Downs.  An interesting course awaited thew racers that led to some good skills and fitness tests.
Dave Kiely again raced the Vets+50 for 47th at a lap 3.43 down on the winner.
John McDowall and Bryan Holland where again our sole racers in the Vets+40 race.  A good start for Bryan and some dogged racing with a small group kept our man on his toes.  John got a shockingly bad start, slightly mollified by picking his way through a pinching together of the main bunch in an early turn.  His ride became an almost four lap hunting down of the man in front until his incessant pressure, and his dark evil ray gun thoughts of ‘make a mistake...make a mistake...’  bore fruit as his man succumbed to his dark arts and slide out with a quarter lap to go so that John could nip through.  Its the small victories in CX that matter!  Respectable results for our guys, in their second race of the weekend, and with what seemed a stronger field than usual - 22nd for Bryan and 26th for John with 57 starters.
