Eastern Cyclo Cross League 7 - Sunday October 23rd 2011

Sun 23 Oct 2011

The Ford CC promotion at Davy Downs, just alongside the Lakeside shopping centre,  was the latest venue for the Eastern Cyclocross League.  Three members took part in the forty mins Vets race - Tim Brown, John McDowall and Dave Kiely.

In a continuation of the weekly comedy that is ‘it can only happen to Dave.’ Turning up at the event only to notice his rear brake blocks where missing from their holders on his bike.    Whilst numerous bodging options where considered, a thorough check of his vehicle produced the offending articles, although no answer to the mystery to how they managed to come out in the first place.

A flatter and considerable less technical course than the last few weeks awaited the riders.    However, the faster speeds lead to some riders attempting some highly speculative cornering with the resulting highly inevitable coming together of riders and earth.  Two sets of steps on the course, taken at the double,  also added to the technical skills required.

Tim Brown continued his fine run of form and came home in fifth place just 0.29 down on the winner, Bruce Robinson of the Shaftesbury CC, who completed seven laps in 40-13.

John McDowall finished in 23rd at +3.28, he rode strongly but slightly wilted towards the end of race and that cost him a couple of valuable places.

Dave Kiely, showing considerable improvement managed 33rd at +5.37, for his most impressive ride of the season despite a minor fall possibly costing him some valuable  positions.

A total of 56 riders started the event with four DNFs, leading to 52 finishers.
