Eastern Cyclocross League 6 - Sun 16th Oct 11

Mon 17 Oct 2011

The latest installment of Eastern Cyclocross League took our intrepid riders across to Colchester for an event run by Amis Velo RT.  Set in open parkland the course contained large sections of tree lined single track, that required considerable skill and effort to navigate successfully, and even then would lead to several ‘oh-ah’ moments for the North Road boys.

After last weeks heroic effort Tim Brown started on the front row of the grid whilst John McDowall and Steve James where placed on row four and five.  Dave Kiely was left off the grid and had to battle his way through the milling herd of un-fancied runners.

All the North Roaders received fanatical support from Joe and Abigail Kiely who where racing later in the under twelve event (thanks kids!).  There was, as feared on such a technically demanding course, some hefty collisions with trees and bramble bushes that left a number of riders from other clubs bruised and bloodied.

The racing was full-on for  almost the whole of the race, this meant a continual battle to retain your positio with the additional pressure that any error would almost certainly cost you  vital places.  Dave again had the most eventful race that included a chain drop, falling off (several times) and a collision with a tree that thankfully left him with just a bruised shoulder.

The winner, Phil Buick of Iceni Velo, completed five laps in 41.56.

Tim came home strongly in 11th place at +2.14.

John McDowall came 30th at +4.26, with Steve James continuing his good run of form a further nine places back at +5.02.

Dave having battled his way through the back end of the field came in at 56th position +8-03.  Ninety-three riders started the event with ninety finishers.
