Having had last week’s race abandoned due to a crash at the rear end of the 4th cat bunch; my mission this week was to get the 1 point I needed to upgrade to 3rd category (a top 10 finish), which would allow me to contemplate a return to the Brickendon series next week.
On the night I was fortunate enough to get second place, missing first by just a few inches. The race had been quite pacey, with an average speed of 25 mph. On the final lap I positioned myself in the top dozen and held my place as the speed ramped up approaching the final bend. As the sprint started about 400m out, I was quickly into a position of playing catch up. To my own surprise I was able to do this quite well and soon found myself chasing a lone rider and gaining fast! I was not quite able to pass him but comfortably had 2nd place and 8 points.
