East London Velo Thurs Evening 13 LVRC 6th Aug 2009

The threat of rain probably put off other North Roaders as I was the only club entrant in the last round of the Ciclos Uno LVRC summer series at Hog Hill. Indeed on the drive from Hatfield to Redbridge the chance of rain seemed so high that I was ready to turn around once it started pouring. In the event the rain held off until after the race and so I lined up with twenty other 40 to 59 year old for another 45 minutes plus 3 laps of the lower circuit.

I was feeling good, in fact in my best form all season and thoughts of that elusive first win were in my head despite having no lead out man. I was rolling off the front and getting into breaks without really trying although at half distance I was in a break with series leader Dave Farrow and top tester High Vivian who are considerably faster than me so I wasn't able to take my turn. We opened a small gap but this was closed down a few laps later.

Five laps to go Simon Hime wandered off the front as he has done several times this year to win the race and no-one chased him. I thought, oh dear he's going to win again, when instead I should have attacked, caught him, beat him in the sprint and won the race!! As I had lost my chance I waited for the sprint where I came 6th. Not bad but I think I was going well enough to do better. Roll on the next race, my hope pea is getting bigger.
