ELV Hog Hill Summer Series 3 - Thursday May 24th 2012

Event 3 was held on a beautifully warm evening with temperatures in the mid 20 degrees. The warmer weather brought a good size field of about 60 riders including myself, John Rumbold, Steve Sexton and Andy Boyle. The lack of wind and large field make me feel a bunch sprint was a near certainty so I rode with that in mind. The average speed of nearly 25 mph made it hard and there were numerous splits that required work to close. I rode near the front for the whole race and felt quite comfortable. After 30 minutes the field was thinned down to about 40 people and as we approached the hour mark I could feel that there were a lot of tired legs. With two laps to go about 15 of us got a gap of about 30 metres going up the climb, but as we approached 400 metres we were all together again. I had a decent attempt at sprinting but had let myself get a bit too swamped to make it into the top 10. I came 13th and was frustrated at losing position in the finale.
