ELV Hog Hill Summer Series1 - Thursday May 10th 2012

John Rumbold and I rode the opening 3/4 Cat event on a very wet and windy evening. Jon Munns was also there and rode the senior event. Due to the downpours, there were a few large puddles on the lower part of the circuit and rivulets crossing the hillier sections. Many punctures were the result as tiny flints were washed onto the track. Those with the foresight to bring spares were allowed a lap out to change wheels; otherwise it was a short night of racing for many. A group of three riders went clear on the first lap and soon opened up a minute lead. We chased hard for most of the race and the field was steadily reduced due to the pace and the poor conditions. The leaders rode well together and kept sharing the load and keeping their rhythm. The break stayed clear. With two laps to go another pair of riders got a small gap and they held on for fourth and fifth place. The bunch sprint was won by ex-North Roader, Tristan Emptage. I came in just behind him for 9th place overall.
