ELV Hog Hill Summer Series Event 5 - Thursday 7th June 2012

Event 5 was held on another windy and wet day. By 7.15 pm though, the rain had stopped and the track was mostly dry. Thirty two riders started in the 3/4 event and only 17 entered the E/1/2/3. I rode the 3/4 event and our greater numbers and eagerness had us closing on the stragglers in the senior race. After 30 minutes we were 50 metres behind them and this proximity deterred any serious attempts at getting away. With two laps to go we swept them up on the climb and kept the pace high with a few breakaway attempts and fights to stay near the front. One rider soloed away and managed to hold us all off to the line. I had been careful with my efforts and felt strong coming in to the finale. I started my sprint with 200 metres to go and crossed the line in ninth place. I should have gone a little sooner as I was closing fast at the end.
