Finchley RT Road Race 6th July 2008

Finchley Road Team Road Race, South Mimms, 3/4 cat, 53 miles - Sunday 6th July 2008

A strong wind and heavy rain showers combined with a stretch of farm track made the Finchley RT race more like a Belgian spring classic than a summer event for 3 North Road participants. Jonathan Appleby, Ian Coles and David Vaughan were part of the 57 riders who set off for the 50 mile race, but with strong winds, crashes and punctures (one of which claimed Jon in the final lap) soon whittled the field down.

Breaks attempted to get away but the final uphill climb was always going to favour a final bunch dash so the peleton rode cautiously in the last lap which allowed a single rider to escape for the win. Ian and David took part in the final 1 km uphill sprint to place 9th & 14th respectively out of only 26 finishers.
