LVRC racing Dunton 20th July 2008 (PLUS PHOTOS)

Mon 21 Jul 2008

A veritable menagerie of North Roaders where at the start line for the latest series of an hour plus five laps vets racing.  With regular Dunton faces John McDowall, Del Evans and Nick Harris being joined by Ashley Glass, Glyn Tyre and Simon Best.  A substantial bigger bunch than usual set out, and was rather taken by surprise by an immediate attack by a small group of rider’s, that despite the extremely blustery conditions remained away for the whole race.  Nick tried an early attack to bridge the gap with four other rider’s, but a veracious chasing bunch hunted them down.  Simon and John had one attempt to win one of the numerous primes on offer, but in an exemplary display of how not to do a lead out sprint, they started the sprint too early and where roundly beaten to the line. This effort was too much for Simon and he was unable to recover in time as the bunch swept by.   Nick was looking strong, and riding rather more forcibly than usual, but sadly suffered a puncture with three laps to go that ended his efforts for the day. Both Ashley and Glyn showed towards the middle and latter stages of the race although both faded a little towards the final laps.   With the final bend approaching John was in good position toward the front of the bunch and attempted to launch a surprise Cancellara type attack.   Not surprisingly it didn’t work out and John was swept up as the bunch galloped to the line, although he battled on to (probably) sneak into the top fifteen.  All the other surviving North Roaders finished in the comforting environs of the main bunch
