Finsbury Park LVRC Road Race - Sun 26th April 09

Sun 03 May 2009

Two North Roaders, Ian Turner and Jeff Robinson rolled up for the Finsbury Park CC LVRC Road Race at Blackmore on Sunday 26th April 2009. Once our bikes were fitted with very professional electronic timing chips (a new acquisition for region 9 this year), we were ready to go.

A lovely, dry and sunny day saw a fairly full field of 40 – 50 riders start the 56 mile event, 6 laps of a 9 mile circuit.

Once the flag went in on the lead car, the race got off to a leisurely start until reaching the finish area, where it started to liven up a little. The first full lap being the fastest of the race, as it turned out at 19 minutes for the 9 odd miles of the circuit. Both Ian and Jeff rode comfortably within the bunch until the 3rd lap when Jeff feeling strong decided to get to the front and try to get in on the act with almost every break attempt. This was to prove a steep learning curve when unable to go with the race winning break due to a recent unsuccessful effort.

Jeff continued to race at, on, and off the front with Ian being far more astute in “sitting in” until the final gallop, which in the end was for 4th place down. Jeff positioned himself for the sprint 2 wheels further back to Ian.  When the gun went Jeff was unable to compete, having burned all his matches earlier in the race, and was left in Ian’s wake. Ian believed himself to have finished around 20th, Jeff finished within the bunch. Official results have not been available at the time of writing.
