Hog Hill Winter Series - Round 4 - Sat 3rd Jan 08

Mon 05 Jan 2009

There was an early return to racing for three North Roaders at the 4th round of the Hog Hill winter series on the 3rd of January 2009. Jamie Anderson, Jon Appleby and Ian Coles were all competing on a cold but sunny and still day, and a nice crowd gave welcome support and created a good atmosphere.

Jamie competed in the 4th category only race and looked incredibly strong through the whole race putting the North Road colours at the front of the climb on every lap. There were high expectations of an early season win but unfortunately a rider slipped off the front in the closing laps leaving Jamie to power through to fine 2nd place.

In the race for 3rd & 4th cats Jon wanted to put in a good performance on his nice new shiny Christmas bike and played an animated part in the racing, a lot of competitors were actually struggling to follow him as his bike was blinding them with its sparkle! A three man break got away within the first 20 minutes and gradually built a nice lead of 40 seconds. Ian had a brief spell off the front but the bunch were not letting any other riders away and the race came down to the inevitable last sprint up the Hoggenberg climb. Ian was placed well for a top 10 finish before managing to pull a wheelie in his sprint and nearly taking out Jon! Ian came in 14th with Jon just behind.

A very enjoyable afternoons racing, with good weather and a nice support and congratulations to Jamie who is now only 2 points away from his 3rd Cat licence, which is expected to be gained next week!
