A strong turn out of North Road riders meant a team of six riders started the fourth Cat only Ashwell Road Race on Sunday the 20th of May.   With Ian Coles riding strongly there was high hopes of further North Road success.  The early pace proved a little too strong for Geoff Robinson and Derek Evans who lost contact with the main bunch after one lap of the three lap race.  With John McDowall, Mark Lawrence and Mike Bridge riding steadily at the back end of the bunch, a quick chat lead to greater North Road activity during the final lap.  Mike Bridge engaged in some basic pack stirring while Mark Lawrence, showing great strength and determination in his first road race, went for a lone break away that required some desperate work from other teams to reel him in.  Ian Coles who had been very active early on in the race was ideally positioned during the final uphill sprint to the line to grab a well deserved third place and elevation to the heady status of third Cat.
